Herb House Spa

A real connection to nature

In the heart of the New Forest National Park in England, known by lush deciduous forest and meadows where wild ponies feed, a luxurious country villa transformed into the Lime Wood Hotel, is located. In the year 2011, a new spa the Herb House has opened its doors as a part of Lime Wood Hotel and I had the opportunity to spend a wonderful afternoon at it.

Herb House is a place dedicated to the natural wellbeing, which draws inspiration from the surrounding forest. Herb House instils a sense of calm and it’s a place where guests can recharge their batteries and find peace, comfort and serenity. Therefore, the Herb House represents a perfect getaway for relaxation or as they call it ‘the perfect chilling retreat’.

Relaxation, indulgence and new energy with magical view over forests

When planning the new spa the architects have undoubtedly drawn their inspiration from the beautiful nature that surrounds the spa and have also mastered to integrate it into the final construction. Therefore, when guests visit the sauna, laconium or the mud bath they can enjoy the breathtaking view of the forest or can relax in an outdoor jacuzzi, surrounded by nature.  The Herb House spa is built in three levels and has 8 spacious and beautifully arranged single treatment rooms that just lull their guest into a calming and relaxing state of mind. But they have also thought of couples, so there are two double rooms or suites for couples – The Bath House with a big indoor bath for two and a private steam room, and The Bath Garden with an outdoor bath and a private steam room.

A wonderful idea of a herb garden

The spa was named after the herbal garden, which is located on the roof of the spa. This unique idea offers beautiful panoramic forest views while enjoying a massage, exercising outdoor, meditating, sunbathing and experiencing the fragrance of fresh herbs or just sipping refreshing drinks with friends.

In case you are still not impressed, there is also an amazing rooftop gym with the newest Technogym fitness equipment and for group training there’s a studio that offers many different workouts, from Body Pump, Kettle Bells, Spin to Yoga and Pilates. So just to be clear, the Herb House offers  not only programs for pampering and relaxing, but one can also find active programs for body shaping known as ‘Boot Camps’.

One of my personal highlights was the 16 meter ozone-treated indoor lap pool with big glass sliding doors overlooking the garden and a skylight that fills the space with natural light and makes swimming in it a beautiful experience. Oh, and definitely worth mentioning are also the luxuries and spacious changing rooms, with enormous showers, soft and cuddly bathrobes, flip-flops, spa amenities, beauty products and even private tubs to soak in after tough workouts to ease the muscles.

Freshly prepared organic dishes for physical wellbeing

And when the hunger strikes, there is the ‘Raw and Cured’ food bar, where guests can taste the use of fresh homegrown herbs from the roof garden and enjoy healthy, natural and freshly prepared delicious dishes, such as freshly made salads, cured fish and meat from Lime Wood’s own Smoke House, as well as fresh juices and smoothies. Also, they offer their guests a choice to indulging in sweet little sins; therefore, they have many healthy desserts made of whole grain flour and 100% cocoa. Moreover, they offer a plentiful supply of good wines and champagne just to remind you, that ‘it’s OK to indulge’.

Natural cosmetics for natural balance

The Herb House spa’s philosophy about their authenticity and search for balance in nature is followed also with five natural cosmetic brands: Bamford, VOYA, Aromatherapy Associates, Pai and Tri-Dosha. At the spa they are proud to work with these five brands, which are boutique product houses from the British Isles. With the help of these five brands Herb House offers their guests natural and ayurvedic treatments, which help restore balance and wellbeing.

My experience

I chose the 60 minute whole body Bamford De-Stress Massage with warm Bamford essential oil. I was given a choice of three body oil blends with essential oils and the lovely therapist helped me choose the invigorating one with a citrusy note. The treatment starts with some special attention to the feet by firstly indulging in a calming essential oil foot bath. My massage began with the feet and legs and then moved upwards to the whole of my back, neck and shoulders. My hands and arms also got the attention they needed and the final relaxing touch was a calming scalp massage, so I can say it truly was a head to toe experience. And the cherry on top was a lovely herbal tea infusion from their rooftop herb garden at the end of my treatment.

It almost sounds like a beginning of a fairytale… ‘Deep in an ancient English forest a charming Herb House spa is hidden, which offers luxurious treatments, unspoiled nature and extremely kind and professional personal.’ … but it’s all true and worth visiting by all means.
