The Spa at Pebble Beach – a unique combination of elegance and outstanding services

In 2015 I had the amazing opportunity to visit the very exclusive and astonishing Pebble Beach Resorts situated on the gorgeous Monterey Peninsula (California, US). The resort consists of three award-winning resorts all in a close vicinity and I stayed at The Inn at Spanish Bay. The nature is breathtaking as it is the place where the Pacific Ocean and the Del Monte Forest converge. This beautiful resort is mostly known for its fabled golf courses, but also for exceptional culinary experiences and for a 5 star, multi-award winning spa – The Spa at Pebble Beach.

The Spa at Pebble Beach is one of only 47 spas in the world to receive the coveted Forbes Five-Star Award. The philosophy of the spa follows a synergy of signature services that incorporate the healing properties of plants, herbs and minerals indigenous to California’s Monterey Peninsula. They offer a variety of spa services designed to reduce stress and enhance balance, including signature massages, body scrubs and wraps, water treatments and aesthetics.

The Spa spreads over 2000 square meters and includes 16 beautiful massage rooms, a massage couples suite, 3 wet rooms, 6 facial rooms, a makeup room, a full service hair salon, 2 beautiful relaxations rooms – conservatory and sanctuary, with complimentary snacks, teas, fresh fruit, juices and water. The spa has men’s and women’s separate locker rooms, each with a steam room, sauna, ionization room and a whirlpool. I have to mention that the changing room is equipped with all the toiletries you could wish for in a spa. There is also an outdoor pool, a spa boutique and The Spa Juice Bar & Cafe, where guests can order freshly made smoothies, juices, soups, salads, tea, coffee, wine, champagne and more, while relaxing in a cosy atmosphere at the juice bar, salon balcony or by the pool. So when they say ‘The Spa at Pebble Beach is a sanctuary for the senses’, this statement really is true.

The spa menu is very versatile offering guests revitalisation and rejuvenation with blissful treatments and a selection of invigorating and relaxing massages, from classic to golf-specific therapies using custom-blended oils. There is also a wide selection of signature treatments, created specifically for The Spa at Pebble Beach. These treatments make the most of the location and include the healing properties of the indigenous plants, herbs and minerals. Some of their signature treatments are inspired by Monterey’s indigenous Esselen tribe, where all the ingredients (herbs, oils, minerals…) used in the treatment are blessed by the tribe’s healers.

At the time of making the booking I had no idea these signature treatments were inspired by the Esselen tribe, which sounds really interesting, so I picked a classic 50min massage and had no regrets, as I think it was one of the best classical massages I ever had. Why? My lovely therapist made sure that the 50 minutes were truly my time, so she tailored and customized the massage to my needs to achieve best result – true relaxation. The first thing that I noticed, my treatment room had a fireplace and as it was February that made me feel just so much cosier. And the second thing was that my therapist was incredibly attentive. To unblock my stuffy nose, while lying on my stomach, she placed a bowl with warm water and some eucalyptus essential oil under the massage table hole, for me to inhale. The massage was great, it even included a head massage and she finished with a short foot reflexology massage. To stimulate deeper relaxation, she even sprayed some lavender mist at the beginning and at the end of the treatment around my head. Needless to say, I really didn’t want to leave that treatment room 🙂

According to the Forbes Five-Star Travel Guide, visiting one of the best spas in the world should be “an exceptional experience with no detail overlooked. These properties wow you with extraordinary design and facilities, and uncompromising service.” – my verdict, check, check and triple check for the uncompromising service. Their therapists are true experts, who cater to the guests’ wishes and needs.

And before I write my final praising words about this spa experience, I have to also mention their The Spa Collection. In each room at the resort and at the spa the guest can indulge in amazing skin products – The Spa Collection, which was exclusively created by June Jacobs for The Pebble Beach Resorts. All the products are of high quality and also preservative and paraben free. I have fallen in love with their The Spa at Pebble Beach Citrus & Seagrass Body Lotion and a bunch of other smaller toiletries I received in my changing locker while at the spa. The citrus & seagrass body lotion has the most beautiful blended fresh scent of citrus and seagrass, with notes of eucalyptus, peppermint and lavender. And while the essential oils give you the fresh and cool sensation, the shea butter, jojoba and babassu oils nourish and hydrate the body.

My morning at The Spa at Pebble Beach was a beautiful, unforgettable and elegant experience. For the European standards, it might be a bit pricey but it really fits the description of a sublime blend of exotic elegance and incomparable services.
