Willow Stream Spa Kea Lani – a lush tropical retreat to restore your energy
A few weeks ago I visited the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui. I stayed at the luxurious Fairmont Kea Lani resort situated on Maui's Wailea coast. The Fairmont Kea Lani is Hawaii's only all-suite and villa luxury oceanfront resort; it embodies the spirit of aloha and offers amazing family fun, sports activities, spa and dining experiences in a breathtaking setting.
Resort amenities feature three swimming pools including an adults-only pool and two activity pools connected by a 140-foot waterslide, 24-hour fitness center, Inspire Your Energy fitness and wellness classes, Kids Club, watersports and beach activities, championship golf and tennis nearby, and a multi-award winning Willow Stream Spa.
The Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Kea Lani resort in Wailea, Maui has been recognized as "World's Best Hotel Spa – Hawaii" in 2014 & 2015. It is a state-of-the-art luxury day spa that offers a full menu of locally inspired experiences, combining Maui sourced products with ancient Hawaiian tradition and the latest in spa technology.
I’ve read that in ancient Hawai'i, well being was achieved by honouring nature, people and spirit, because all these three elements were valued and connected. Each entity had mana (power or life energy) that flowed from themselves to others. Keeping these elements connected resulted in a sacred balance that helped to maintain a healthy way of life for centuries. At The Willow Stream Spa Kea Lani the Hawaiian traditions are beautifully intertwined in the spa menu. They offer locally inspired experiences that combine Maui sourced products, oils and herbs with ancient Hawaiian tradition. The spa’s main focus is to uplift your spirit and restore your mana (energy).
The Willow Stream Spa spreads over 9000 square foot and includes 13 luxurious treatment rooms,4 signature treatment rooms, a treatment room with state of the art WaveMotion table, a room with high performance vichy shower and the couple’s Aloha suite. It also features male locker rooms and relaxation area with Uahi Wai Steam Room, Hawaiian Rain Showers, Wela Sauna and heated stone lounges. The female locker room features a relaxation area with inhalation steam room, Wela sauna, a pa-lolo (mud) bar, unique rain shower experiences and heated stone mud bench and foot bed. Finishing touches are completed in their hair and nail salon to suit all their guests’ beauty needs. And if that is not enough, they also offer three outdoor cabanas to ensure you are pampered wherever you wish to be.
I’ve decided to try one of their signature treatments, the Kea Lani 90 minute Signature Massage. It is truly a head to toe pampering and unbelievably relaxing treatment. My lovely therapist Bethany was incredibly attentive. The first thing I have noticed was that the massage table was warm, which made me feel so cosy. The massage started with my therapist placing her palms with some eucalyptus oil under the massage table face hole for me to inhale, while I was lying on my stomach. Afterwards a warm, wet towel was spread over my back and then a full-body massage with a blend of pure macadamia nut and kukui nut oil followed, with a focused neck and shoulder massage. The second part of the treatment was an invigorating lemongrass foot scrub followed by a pressure point scalp massage using an invigorating citrus mask to nourish the scalp and make my hair shiny and strong. Through the whole massage I have sensed a lot of attention focused on keeping my body nice and warm. During the massage, I was covered with a warm, fluffy comforter and my therapist was placing warm towels underneath my neck and shoulders, wrapping me my feet and palms with them and placing a warm eye pillow on my face. To stimulate deeper relaxation and melt away any tension, my therapist sprayed some ilang ilang mist at the beginning and at the end of the treatment around my head and on my hair.
This treatment was inspired by the island rituals to balance energy for a grounding experience. It was an unbelievably soothing experience that makes your skin fell soft and radiant, your hair nourished and leaves an overall feeling of serenity.
I must say I really liked the ‘Ala Lani Bath and Body products used in this treatment as they had this genuine tropical rich scent. I’ve learned that the ‘Ala Lani is a Maui-based, family-owned company that crafts its products by hand selecting the best organic Hawaiian ingredients, with no artificial scents added. They are dedicated to creating products that awaken the senses and envelop your body in tropical delight and that is exactly what I’ve experienced.
The Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Kea Lani is the perfect place to restore your energy and find balance. They focus on finding innovative ways to help guests discover their own energy, as energy makes thedifference between living and living well; as they say: ‘recharging our energy allows us to flow, rather than fight, through life’.
Mahalo and aloha 🙂
